Telugu to be made compulsory up to Class XII in Telangana


The Hindu reports:
The Telangana Government has decided to make all educational institutions, both in private and public, teach Telugu as a compulsory subject from 1st to 12th standards. Chief Minister K. Chandrasekar Rao on Tuesday made it clear that only those educational institutions teaching Telugu as a compulsory subject would be given recognition and permissions to function. For those opting for Urdu, it should be offered as an optional. The decision was taken in the light of the capital hosting the World Telugu Conference from December15 to 19.
