Independence Day: Puducherry divers raise tricolour undersea. In celebration of India's 73rd Independence Day, a group of divers from Puducherry decided to go to the depths of the Bay of Bengal to raise the tricolour. Relevantly, the Indian flag was first hoisted on the highest mountain peak of the world, Mount Everest, on May 29, 1953. On August 13, the divers swam down 60 feet to the ocean floor to raise the flag. The whole exercise took them about 30 minutes.
